We can all agree that despite the excellent work of so many institutional, independent, and collaborative initiatives to improve LCSH, many problematic (or downright offensive) subject headings remain unaddressed. Many hands make light work and the Cataloging Advisory Committee aims to provide a way to connect art librarians who have identified headings in need of revision with art catalogers with SACO access. And while we acknowledge the full range of subjects that can crop up in an art library collection, we are focusing our efforts on headings in art, architecture, design, and related fields.
An example of a problematic art-related heading is “Blacks in art,” and a potential proposed new term could be “Black people in art.”
